If in this life only we have hope in Christ

Hope is said to be the favourable and confident expectation of an outcome. It is based on the future but the circumstances and environment of our hope is authored in the present. Hope has the power to motivate and could be argued that it is a psychological necessity if a future is to be envisaged. In light of all of that what does this life has to offer that gives us cause for optimism? Does having more money, more jewellery, more cars, fame, influence able to give a favourable and confident expectation beyond the present realm? Have those things been offered and obtained before and what immunity do those things give?
